Klezmer was the primary social dance music of Jewish social life in pre-War Europe, and today, in an eclectic range of modern styles that blend its Jewish/European roots with jazz, hip hop, global pop, and R&B elements, it thrives in major urban centers from New York to San Francisco and London to Tokyo. The intoxicating sound and energy of klezmer has made its way to Tallahassee as well now via clarinet and sax phenom Joe Goldberg, who is back in town after several successful years in New Orleans to pursue his graduate studies in the FSU jazz program. Joe joins forces with the ubiquitous Michael Bakan on percussion and young jazz star Jack Straub on bass for a klezmer-meets-jazz evening that you won't want to miss!
